Collection consists of letters: 1926 Aug. 14, Plymouth, Mass. - Peroff working in N.Y. for a new film; 1930 Aug. 11, West Cornwall, Conn. - a little luck with recent writings (a new ms. of his magic experiences called "The Playboy of a Magic Plane finished); 1930 Oct. 19, N.Y.C. - "things look here very revolutionary" with news of acquaintances and the illness of Bob [Chanler]; [1930] Oct. 22, N.Y.C. - Chanler ill and his friends wish to organize an exhibition in his honor (or memory if he dies); 1931 Jan. 16, N.Y.C. - social issues, revolution and anarchism; 1936 Nov. 12, N.Y.C. - Narodny hopes Evans gets the World's Fair position and can place Chanler's panel "New York Harbor" on display, and asks for money. With two cancelled checks and a copy of Narodny's "The Skygirl" (London & N.Y., 1925) with cover illustration by Vladimir Bobritsky, dedicated to Evans and containing a tipped-in letter regarding the opening of Seyffert's exhibition at the Grand Central Galleries.

Montgomery Evans was born in 1901 and formed friendships with many of the literary figures of the time. He was friends with Hunter Stagg, an editor of the Southern literary magazine The Reviewer, and it was through him that he was able to network and associate with some of the well-known literary figures of the 1920's. Evans and Stagg went together on a European tour in 1924 during which he spent time with Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, Sylvia Pankhurst, and Sylvia Beach, and eventually becam...
